"Who is God?"

My husband preached a message on the Names of God a few years ago and the key verse that our church memorized was Ps. 91:14. "He who knows my name, will I set securely on high" and other version says "Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him because he acknowledges My Name."

This verse has been the most challenging thought for me over these past couple of years and I thank God that I am really beginning to understand what it is all about. There is a big push in some venues to love more and serve more. Our culture has developed us to think about others so much that sometimes we think the "amount we give" or "serving we do" reflects a more mature nature as a christian and a truly well rounded and satisfied life. I am challenged with this thinking as I read the word of King David's prayers and declarations in the Psalms and consider why God created us in the first place. It all boils down to this one answer to why am I hear.

I have to know this FIRST in order to have balance in my service and love towards others....The answer: I was created for God's glory...that I may know Him in the power of his might. That I might know Him and that I might KNOW his name. And when I KNOW Him as LORD, when I know Him as Comforter, when I know Him as Healer, and when I depend on Him above all else, then, I like King David in Psalm 4:8 "Will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety"

Because we are human we seek and even depend on other things to bring peace and satisfaction to our souls..money, friends, status, clothes, alcohol, other addictive behaviors, social media, fame, family, great vacations, the list goes on and on. But with all the abundance that the life offers, I am convinced that we will continue to seek these things as our "fillers" and come up empty until we know God personally, until we experience Him in the fullness of His name, until we rest in His Lordship. How does this happen? One day at a time...confessing like the psalmist...He is God, we are not, He alone can change things, we can not, He alone satisfies, this will not. He alone heals our hearts, that will not. He alone sustains, He alone fills, completes, provides, forgives, justifies, frees,,,,and then everything we experience in and out of this KNOWING and everything we give to others come out of our abundance of HIM and not our need for empty fulfillment.

Continue to seek for God, do not stop asking questions, do not give up on the church, I will end this blog with King David's challenge from Psalms 107:43 "Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the GREAT LOVE of the Lord." My prayer that I pray in order to know God's Name. By His Grace,

Mary
